Reverend Touré Marshall
Reverend Touré Marshall, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and a double Minor in Finance and Economics from Johnson C. Smith University, where he graduated with honors and earned the distinction of “The Most Outstanding Honor’s College Male,” of his graduating class. Growing up the son of a Presbyterian pastor provided him with experience and exposure to ministry and the role of religion in society, early and often. He possesses a strong sense of call to serve church and community. He began at eight years old canvassing the streets of the Southside of Chicago in the Altgeld Gardens Housing Projects doing voter engagement work along side his father. Later as a teenager he was the coordinator of an ecumenical coalition of congregations that worked on the East side of Baltimore, MD, where he organized youth in anti-drug rallies/campaigns, neighborhood block meetings, and set-up forums where local residents and politicians engaged each other to collectively construct solutions to community concerns. He most recently served as the Ministerial Assistant at Elmwood United Presbyterian Church in East Orange, New Jersey, one of the largest and fastest growing African American Presbyterian congregations in the nation, where he provided leadership for the Christian Education, Lay and Evangelism ministries. Relocating to Charlotte, NC over a year ago, Rev. Marshall undertook the task of working with the H.E.L.P. organization, and developing an organization of congregations within the northern part of Mecklenburg county that would work together across race, class, and denominational affiliations, to identify common community concerns and act together along with business and government to address the pressures the rapid growth in the country is placing on many families in the area. To this point he has recruited 15 institutions from Mecklenburg County that represent over 50,000 citizens. While glorifying God through community organizing has always been an essential part of his ministry, Reverend Marshall is also a dynamic scholar, teacher and preacher. He is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, class of 2004 and 2005, where he earned both his Master of Divinity and master of Theology degrees with a concentration in the area Religion and Society. While at Princeton he published in the Princeton Theological Review, writing a review on theologian Anthony Carter’s book, On Being Black and Reformed. Reverend Marshall is married to Reverend Eustacia Moffett Marshall, Associate Pastor of the C. N. Jenkins Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. He is the second son of the Reverend Gordon and Mrs. Sharon Marshall and the “little” brother of Mr. Kimani Marshall and “big” brother of Ché and Kamau Marshall. It is his desire to use his gifts for the worship and glory of God and to impact communities for positive growth such that they develop into the beloved communities that reflect God’s love and purpose for all creation.
