Advent Wreath Activity
Weekly Activity (each Sunday):
One of the most common celebrations is the lighting of candles on an Advent wreath. We celebrate the coming of the Christ child, who was born of the virgin Mary and crucified for our sins. He was resurrected and sent the Holy Spirit to be with us, always. In this season of advent, we continue to exercise our faith - we believe that Jesus is Lord, He has been raised from the dead to save us from sin and He will return again. We light a different candle each week, expecting the coming of the Lord in our lives:
Week 1: One purple candle is lit - symbolizing hope for the coming of the Messiah.
Week 2: Two purple candles are lit - symbolizing hope and faith.
Week 3: Two purple candles and one rose candle are lit - symbolizing hope, faith, and joy.
Week 4: Three purple candles and one rose candle are lit - symbolizing hope, faith, joy, and peace.
Christmas Day: We light the 5th candle (traditionally the tallest candle - and white in color) to represent the purity of the Christ child; recognizing His light in our lives.
*purple color represents royalty, repentance and fasting
*rose/pink color represents joyfulness and rejoicing
*white color represents light and purity
